Isaiah’s car makes a sharp left turn before he parks it in front of the place Manny wants me to meet up with him at.

“You know I’m like my sister. I don’t trust that nigga.”

“You don’t trust anybody.”

“Damn right. I don’t trust these niggas far as I can throw them. I only trust the bitch I’ve been riding with since the beginning. And Tasha and her friends haven’t let me down yet,” he says referring to his Glock and bullets as he takes it from under his shirt and gives it a kiss.

I laugh. “I’ll be back.” Opening the door and stepping out, closing the door behind me the wind shields my body again. Sniffing the dirty air, I smell death. And if the information Manny is about to give me is correct, I’ll smell more than death. I’ll smell peace, finally.

Walking up towards Manny’s ride, I give the knock on the glass window. He rolls down the window and gives me a nod. I can hear the click as he unlocks the passenger side door. Climbing in, he starts up the car and drives us into the nearby alley.

“Aye, you know I’m on it. Just have my dinner ready when I come home,” he speaks to the person on his phone. “10-4, I’ll see you later.” He finishes he call then turns his attention towards me.

“Chance what’s up bro?” he greets me with a quick dap.

“Shit, I’m chilling like a villain.”

He laughs. “Shit, you’re wanted like one too. Rumor has it Keith wants your life in exchange for a nice price. The streets out here talking. That nigga wants your blood.”

“That nigga Keith know where to find me. I’m not too far from where he lay his own fucking head. I have been in the same house. He must not be looking for me too tough. Otherwise he’d find what he’s looking for.”

“True shit. But how’s Cherish?” he asks, changing the subject.

“Bad as hell.”

“Just wait until she hit that terrible two. Bad wouldn’t be the word to describe her then.”

I laugh. “True shit. But what you got for me?”

“Come take a walk. You know Jackie never likes it when I do business in her car.” He laughs while opening his side door and stepping out, with me not too far from behind him, as we both walk deeper into the alley.

The pit of my stomach begins to feel as if it’s turning. “Come back home to us,” Jet’aime’s voice echoes out, as I actual look around and see if she’s standing at my side. The beat of my heart is starting to change, as the beating increases. “Come back home to us,” her voice echoes out again.

“I am Sunshine,” I speak out loud.

“What?” Manny gives me a strange look.

“Nothing, what you got for me? You know police hotter than the summer time out here.”

He laughs. “You know they don’t come on this side of town. West is the worse end. I’m sure they’re trying to go home to their wives and kids just like I am.
